Boot Camp Begins

Daryl Jacob came to ride out last Tuesday he interestingly he had a lot to say about Cedre Bleu which has hopefully put us on track for this seasons campaign - notably that he likes to run fresh so we might head straight to the Paddy Power with him. Unsurprisingly Daryl and Noel didn't hang around for second where we had a lot of fresh horses being sat on for the first time in two months!

I drove to Newbury racecourse later that day for an NTF meeting as I am a council member. One of the guest speakers was David Muir from the RSPCA and interestingly enough it was quite clear that he didn't have a clue what he was going on about.

We also had a USSEE running at Southwell with Harry Bannister onboard. She ran a very game race to finish second which I thought was a creditable effort as I would have liked to have put another ten days work into her. I liked her attitude a lot.

By Wednesday it was the second day of riding all the horses that have had a summer break. They are now hacking round the village and so far we have only had Ben take an unexpected involuntary dismount from the very fresh BIG JER to write up in the accident report form!

Katya's new car turned up on Friday and I an glad to say that if our new horse box doesn't turn up soon then at least the Q7 is big enough to fit at least two horses in! It also has so many seats that after our family trip to Scotland next week I can also see it being used as the Saturday racing minibus-I am taking bookings for Cheltenham and Royal Ascot already!

On Saturday we went to Clifton to see some friends and watch the King George. Although Clifton is a stunning place I do think it is looking a bit tired which is a shame. The same cannot be said for Taghrooda who won really well, she was mightily impressive and I would love to see her contest that Arc where she will take on SEVENTH SKY'S nephew Sea The Moon.

Willy and Suzie Watson kindly invited us to a lovely lunch on Sunday, their hospitality is always second to none. It was a nice end to the week as I always find the first week when the horses come back slightly stressful. I have had particular trouble with the children's lot!

SURENESS runs at Uttoxeter today, it might possibly be a week to soon for her as her two runs took a lot of out her but I think she must take her chance today as the race cut up significantly.

Pardubice and Grand National Horse FOR SALE

We have 1 share remaining in LAMBRO.

LAMBRO has been bought to go to the Pardubice with in October and then the Grand National in April.

We have set up a great syndicate of like minded people who keen to have some really fun days out racing. There really is nothing like the Pardubice and the excitement of having a horse in the Grand National is second to none. Both are races that anyone can win!-and we think Lambro is the ideal candidate (especially as he has already beaten last years Grand National winner)!!!

It is a small partnership of only 6 shares so you wont have to share the glory with too many people!

Stable Staff Required

Riding out will include riding work on both grass and all weather gallops.

The job will include stable duties and travelling to race meetings.

Grade A salary to the right candidate. Work one weekend in two and every other Thursday afternoon off.

A friendly fun team and a new purpose built yard with great facilities and a nice working environment.

A new dawn..Monday!

Today most of the horses came back from their summer holidays. It is great to see some heads over the stable doors again. It has been a good summer for them, they all look very well and have been well looked after at Colin Tinklers. I get them in every year at this time as it starts to get to hot for them and they start getting sore feet, it also gives me the right amount of time to do plenty of walking and trotting base work with them before they start cantering which I believe reduces the risk of injury later on in the season.

 

We have lot of new faces this year as we have bought a number of new horses. Most notably Cedre Bleu who has come from Paul Nicholls, he has been bought for a partnership to enjoy some of the big Saturday meetings with the hope of going back to the Topham with him in the spring. Last week I bought a good horse called Lambro from Ireland, we have got a great partnership together for him and the aim is to head out to the Pardubice in October, he is also qualified for the Grand National which is the long term aim.

 

I have also bought a novice chaser from Ireland and some Irish and English winning pointers. We still have some shares available in a couple of them, and as they are such a nice bunch I am sure they will sell easily. We have some very nice new owners, I have enjoyed getting to know them this summer at various different events and we have also had some lovely Sunday lunches (excellently cooked by Katya) at Neardown introducing new partnerships to each other.  I feel really positive that we are gearing up for a good 2014-2015 season with a great team of owners, horses and staff.

 

We have had a great start with 6 winners to start the ball rolling which means I am still on the same number as Paul! I have had 6 horses in through most of the summer, Almost Gemini, Westbrooke, Western King, Victor Leudorum,Sureness and Ussee.  I have been very happy with the way they have run but not so happy with some of the h'cappers decisions. Sureness went up by 11 pounds after her win which left her struggling to over come on her last outing and Western King has put in some gallant efforts but has been struggling against his mark and still hasn't been dropped to allow him to become competitive again.

 

I have a new horse running for me tomorrow at Southwell called Ussee (FR), Nick Bannister has leased her from Eamon Fehily (Noels Brother) for the summer for his son Harry to ride. She seems to have improved since being at Neardown and is a game little mare, hopefully we can pick up a few wins with her over the next couple of months and she will then go to Ireland to become a broodmare as she is wonderfully bred.

 

Now we are underway I will be trying to write regular blogs (hopefully at least 2 a week) which should keep you up to date with all our news. I will also shortly be realising information on our new racing club and our new open day so keep logging on to find out more.
