Attimo

With the ground drying up it is unlikely we will be able to get a run into him this year. We are going to keep him ticking over till the sun shines and the grass grows when he can then be turned out. I think he will benefit from having another summer to mature.

Ballymurry

A few little problems came to light after his disappointing run at Exeter. His back and heels were sore. We think we have now sorted them out and he is back in his normal routine and very fresh.

Big Jer

2m 6f at Fontwell was a bit on the short side; however Sam was very pleased with his jumping and felt he would be a much stronger horse next year. With the ground drying up it looking more and more likely that he won’t run again this year. We do plan to keep training him just in case we get some wet weather towards the end of the month.

Duke of Monmouth

Noel came in to school him over fences for the first time this morning. He took to it well and like everything he does he gave it his all. He was very clever going both long and short. Noel felt that his lack of size was made up for in his attitude!

Enter Paradise

He is in terrific form at home; he did a routine canter today and is entered at Ascot in a 0-145 boys race on Sunday. To me it looks to be a competitive race, there could be something else easier for him.

Feisty Lass

She did a piece of work yesterday with Masked Man. She went very well and showed she has fully recovered from the race on horrible ground at Southwell. I think the drying ground will help her, however the race she is entered for on Saturday is over 2m 4f which to me may be a little on the short side on quicker ground.

Fine Parchment

He is running rather sooner than we had planned, however he came out of his race at Fakenham better than I thought he would. He is in good form at home but is taking on a very competitive field.

King Arthur

 He does not look that great in his coat but he is working well at home. He seems to be going about everything with a lot of energy. He is entered at Chepstow on Saturday and Ascot on Sunday which are both realistic options.

Lord of House

Happy and fresh at home, we are praying for the weather to warm up and the grass to grow so we can turn him out.

Maringo Bay

I really think we have turned a corner with him; he is looking well and eating well. He seems to be back in good health.

Masked  Man

He really has come to himself in the last few weeks. His next run will be much improved on his previous two. He has had a nice break and done some nice bits of work-the better ground will be a big help to him too.

Prolinx

He has just been ticking over in his usual routine. Nicky felt he was not moving to well on Saturday so we had the back man in to take a look at him. He found him to be a little sore so put him right, it is not serious and hasn’t missed a day – he will be working again on Saturday.

Seventh Sky

He looks better than ever. He holds entries at Aintree and Chepstow on Saturday, with Chepstow being the preferred option. I think he will run at good race if he does go there.

Stoney Silence

He holds an entry at Chepstow on Saturday where his participation will be ground dependent. He wouldn’t want it to soft and he wouldn’t want it to quick! There could be a better option for him in a week or so.

Van Diemens Land

He is currently at the vets having a wind op.

Victor Leudorum

Noel schooled him this morning, he was great! He is very athletic and bold. He holds at entry at Ascot on Sunday however there could be easier places to start him in his chasing career.

Western King

Gavin schooled him over fences again today and he showed us he is getting better and better every time. The ground has dried up nicely for him; he is going very well at home and will run well wherever he goes.

Who Owns Me

He is in amazing form at home and will run his heart out today, however he really is up against some stiff competition.

Yazdi

Noel schooled him this morning and was happy with him. The better ground will be in his favour and he should be out again soon, needing only one more run before he gets a mark from the handicapper.

Attimo

The splint on his leg has not reduced in size at the rate we had first hoped. He has had a cortisone injection and will be on the walker for another week. We hope to ride him on Monday.

Ballymurry

He was disappointing at Exeter on Tuesday, he looked to be hanging and not moving that great. Nothing has immediately come to light that would have caused this, however we do have the back man coming to give him a check up.

Big Jer

He looks very well and worked nicely yesterday. Charlie hopes to run him over 2m 6f at Fontwell next Tuesday. I would be hopeful of him running a good race.

Duke of Monmouth

He has had a very quiet time since his last run at Chepstow. He is eating well and looks well; however he is still not as fresh and bouncy as he can be.

Enter Paradise

He is fresh and well and ready to go, the ground will need to dry up a bit for him to run again.

Feisty Lass

She ran a creditable race on ground that I thought was too soft for her. Gavin reported that her wind caught her out in the closing stages, therefore we will apply a tongue tie next time. She has run up a bit light so it will be a few weeks before she is next out.

Fine Parchment

He ran a solid race at Fakenham only to get muscled out 2 fences from home. His jumping was as brilliant as ever. He has come home fine and we now plan to get him freshen up before he runs again. The Handicapper dropped him 2lbs.

King Arthur

We are just waiting for some better ground, he is fresh and well and ready to go. I am looking forward to seeing him run in a hood as it seemed to work for the RSA winner last week!

Lord of House

Noel came in to school him over fences again this morning, he schooled very well (Video on the website) and has improved again from last week. Noel thought he would make a good chaser next season.

Maringo Bay

Charlie has been riding him a lot, he reports him to be very fresh. He hopes to have him out in a couple of weeks.

Masked  Man

He is another one that really needs the ground to dry out. He is a bit behind the others with his summer coat coming through; however this is no reflection on his form. He is currently trying to buck people off at every opportunity!

Prolinx

He was unlucky at Southwell, I personally felt that in the heavy ground over 2m 4f he just struggled to quicken and go through with it. I thought on the whole his jumping was great and he is improving with every run. He is still well handicapped. He came home well and should be out again soon.

Seventh Sky

He won nicely at Taunton but was given a 9lb rise which I thought was a bit harsh. He holds entries at Bangor, Newbury & Wincanton this weekend. Wincanton looks the most obvious at this stage to cut up.

Stoney Silence

He schooled very well this morning for Noel. He really likes him, he still has a lot to learn but there is potential. It looks like he may have another bumper run before he goes out.

Van Diemens Land

 He has come out of his Sandown race fresher than he went into it! I suspect he wasn’t letting him self down in the heavy ground. We are now waiting for some better ground with a step up in trip.

Victor Leudorum

 He jumped like a little bunny this morning, if anything a bit exuberant! Noel was happy with him.  He is not far off a run now; he just needs the better ground.

Western King

Gavin schooled him this morning; he is improving with every schooling session. His coat is slowly coming through and he looks well. Charlie hopes to run him soon however he could really do with the ground drying out a bit.

Who Owns Me

He really is ready to run soon and looks terrific. The race at Bangor on Saturday looks very competitive, there might be easier options coming up.

Yazdi

He came home with a bad overreach, which Noel thinks happened at the first hurdle, which would have affected his run. However 2m 5f in soft ground may have been a bit much for him at the moment. The overreach is healing up nicely and I hope he will be out again soon.

Peter Toole was all smiles today, he schooled Mr Big over the Grand National fences - foot perfect!
Pete will be leaving us at the end of the week, to return home to Ireland. He will be greatly missed by everyone on the yard, it hasn't been easy for him since his accident but he has made a great recovery and we are all very proud of him.

Attimo

The area where he banged himself is still slightly inflamed and a little sore. However he is still on the walker and Charlie has the vet coming for a check up tomorrow. He does hope to get him ridden out next week.

Ballymurry

 He schooled over fences again this morning, he started off a little careful to begin with but we then dropped him in behind Mr Big to give him a nice lead and he was much better – he was even better again the last time he went up the line. Charlie was delighted with him.

Big Jer

He has been pleasing us lately in his work. He will hopefully run at Chepstow on Saturday. The rain that we are getting today and that forecast for Friday and Saturday will be in his favour, he will appreciate the softer ground.

Duke of Monmouth

He holds entries at Chepstow on Saturday, Warwick on Sunday and Taunton on Monday. All three are realistic options at this stage. I think Charlie hopes to run him wherever he will get the softer ground.

Enter Paradise

 He ran his usual honest race where once again he found one to good. I feel 2m 6f is still a bit sharp for him and maybe we have applied the front running tactics one to many times now. We might try and drop him in over further as an option next time out. I am sure he will be ready to run again in a couple of weeks, where the ground should hopefully be a bit quicker too.

Feisty Lass

She holds entries at Chepstow on Sunday and Plumpton and Taunton on Monday. She might struggle to get into the races as she has a ballot number in all 3. She did a nice piece of work yesterday and still looks great in her skin. Charlie plans to run her in blinkers.

Fine Parchment

He has been out in the field a few days this week and has absolutely loved it. We have mainly just been trying to freshen him up and keep him sweet. He could run at Sandown on Saturday, however another week might not do him any harm.

King Arthur

He will run on Saturday at Sandown in a 2m Juvenile 0-125 Hurdle. Charlie still plans to run him in a hood which he schooled well in this morning, hopefully it might settle him better.

Lord of House

He had his first school over fences today, which as you can imagine came very naturally to him. He was a bit careful but he has loads of scope and looked an exciting prospect to go Novice Chasing with next year.

Maringo Bay

He has been out in the field lots over the last few days, in a hope to freshen him up. He is eating well and is starting to get a bit more of a shine to his coat.

Masked  Man

 He heads off to Sandown tomorrow for the Grand Military Gold Cup, which is the race he won last year. The drying ground will be in his favour, lets hope the rain today does not get into the ground to much.

Prolinx

Once again a very frustrating day with him on Saturday. He stayed on well after the last, which is something we didn’t think he would do. Instructions to Sam were to go as late as possible, now we know he does settle and stay we can up him to 2m 4f and ride him a bit handier.

Seventh Sky

 He remains very fresh and well. He holds entries on Monday at both Taunton and Stratford where he could run at either. Charlie plans for him to be ridden a bit more handy next time.

Stoney Silence

He ran a very promising race at Huntingdon on Sunday to finish 4^th. Sam said he gave him a great feel and was maybe a bit green but would come on a lot from the experience. He has come out of the race better than I thought he would. He ate up that night and has continued to do so all week. He has been for a walk everyday since; the lads tell me he needs a canter soon before he bucks one of them off!

Van Diemens Land

 He heads off to Sandown tomorrow for 2m Hurdle, to be ridden by Major Alex Michael. The drying spell will be in his favour, however the rain today will not. We know he wants further but Charlie thinks that this isn’t the strongest race.

Victor Leudorum

 He schooled over fences this morning on the grass, it was very exciting to watch as he is a real natural. As with most things he did it with real enthusiasm. He should be ready to run in a couple of weeks.

Western King

He schooled nicely over fences this morning. He did his first bit of work yesterday since his wind op, he has lost a bit of fitness however he is going well and it won’t take long to regain. He should be ready to run in a couple of weeks.

Who Owns Me

He is very fresh and well, taking off with most of jockeys! He should be ready to run in a week or so.

Yazdi

 Yesterday was very frustrating as we didn’t learn anything about him. He looked to slip on landing and un-shipped Sam T-D. He is none the worse for his outing so Charlie plans to run him again soon.

Attimo

He has had a little set back this week with a bang to his near fore cannon bone, we had the vet in yesterday to confirm it was not that serious. The area is slightly inflamed, therefore he will stay on box rest till Monday and then will resume light exercise for a week with the hope of returning to full exercise the week later.

Ballymurry

He came out of his fall at Market Rasen so much better than I thought he would. He has eaten well since and put the majority of his weight back on. Sam Thomas came in to school him this morning. He was a bit careful, but Sam was happy with him-just thinking he might need to be schooled a few more times before he runs again.

Big Jer

He is in top form at home and is ready to run. He has strengthened up considerably in the last few weeks. We are all looking forward to seeing him run, although we are fully aware he will be a much better horse next year. Charlie has him in at Exeter on Tuesday where he hopes to run him, but there is also an option of a 3m mile maiden at Chepstow a week Saturday.

Duke of Monmouth

He seems fresh and well in himself, taking a good strong hold at home! Charlie rode him on Tuesday and said he felt great. He is entered at Exeter on Tuesday back in novice company – although Charlie would prefer to run Big Jer in the race, I do think a return to novice company would benefit him.

Enter Paradise

 He ran a very creditable race at Doncaster in what was a very hot contest. He has come out of the race well. I think another 2 weeks of keeping him fresh and a return to novice company would give him the best chance of getting his head in front.

Feisty Lass

She was given a mark of 70 which enables us to go h’cap hurdling. We schooled her in blinkers this morning which did seem to encourage her to attack her hurdles a bit more. However there is no getting away from the fact that she is a bit of a thinker! There is a 0-95 over 2m 4f next Thursday at Wincanton which would be an option for her.

Fine Parchment

He has been a bit quiet since his run at Sandown. Where he was once again pipped on the line the poor bugger! He has gone out for a nice walk today; it shouldn’t take too much to freshen him up again.

King Arthur

He was still far to keen in his race at Doncaster. Charlie thinks it might be a good idea to run him in a hood, something we have not yet tried but it does seem to be working for other people. He is in good spirits and schooled well this morning. There is a 0-125 juvenile h’cap hurdle for him at Sandown a week Saturday.

Lord of House

We did an over ground scope with him yesterday which we have not yet had the results back from yet. I am hoping they find a problem with his breathing as it is something that can be fixed and often brings about considerable improvement.

Maringo Bay

We took a track wash off him yesterday which is routine after a bad run, we have not had the results back yet. He is eating well enough but looks a bit dull in his coat.

Masked  Man

He is good form at home; the ground is drying out for him. He has benefited from not having another run in the soft ground, and should be spot on for his big day next Friday in the Grand Military Gold Cup.

Prolinx

Amazingly his fall has not seemed to have affected him, he ate up that night and has continued to eat well since. Sam came in to school him this morning and he was his usual free self up the line of fences. He has been given a mark of 118 which I don’t think will stop him and gives him a lot more options.

Seventh Sky

He ran another good race to finish fourth last time out, he came out of the race better than he usually does so therefore Charlie plans to get him out again soon.  I think he would benefit from being ridden a bit more handy.

Stoney Silence

He looks great at the moment; Charlie has put him in a bumper on Sunday at Huntingdon. He would benefit from the experience of a run; although he seems to take everything in his stride he is still very green.

Van Diemens Land

 He is in tip top form and ready to run. The ground is drying out nicely for him although I still think it is still a bit soft for him at the moment, therefore I would be leaning towards holding out for good spring ground and a step up to 3 miles.

Victor Leudorum

He went for a wind op 13 days ago which does not seem to have knocked him back at all! He has eaten well through his 10 days of light exercise and has been cantering for the last 3 days. He will back in full work on Monday.

 Western King

He also went for a wind op at the same time as Victor, he did seem to lose a bit of shine to his coat which is quite normal.  He continues to eat well! He also has been cantering for 3 days and will be back in full work on Monday.

Who Owns Me

He is still on the easy list as he seems to be a much happier horse the fresher we can get him. He will be back in full work on Monday and I don’t imagine he will have lost any fitness.

Yazdi

 He has come on so much in the last month. Charlie took him for a racecourse gallop on Tuesday which has tightened him up. Sam Thomas came in to school him this morning. He could go to Fontwell next Wednesday for a 2m 2 ½ f maiden hurdle.

The good news is that all the snow has gone and we are now back in our usual routine with all the gallops open. The bad news is most of the horses seemed to have lost a little of their fitness. This is as expected due to the snow causing closure to some of the gallops restricting the amount of work we could put into them.

This was telling this morning as most of the horses had a good blow after working. I don’t think it will take much to regain what has been lost; if anything the small break will have done a few horses some good.

Tomorrow will be a big schooling morning as Charlie wants to get as many off the ground as possible.

Attimo

Although he is a big horse he does not seem to have lost as much fitness as some of the other horses. He worked exceptionally well upsides Victor Leudorum this morning. Charlie wants to school him tomorrow. He should be about ready to run in 3 weeks time.

Ballymurry

He did a piece of working this morning with Big Jer and Masked Man which I think he will come on from. He did it nicely although he did have a good blow at the 3 furlong marker. He will work again on Saturday and holds and entry for Southwell on Monday, however the meeting looks unlikely to go ahead.

Big Jer

He did not work badly this morning but he definitely needed it, he will come on a lot for it. He will work again on Saturday and should be out towards the end of February.

Duke of Monmouth

Rose rode him in a piece of work this morning, she was very happy with him. I think the snow came at just the right time for this fella as he had a hard race at Warwick , the snow gave him an opportunity to do something different which has freshened him up. He is now ready to go again, he holds entries at Chepstow on Friday and Wetherby on Saturday but waiting another week may not do him any harm.

Enter Paradise

 He is so well at the moment and looks great. Charlie is adamant that he wants to hold out for some better ground so we have backed off him a small bit, so when the better ground does come he has not gone over the top.

Feisty Lass

She still has a wonderful shine to her coat. Charlie has been slightly reluctant to run her the last couple of days as she missed work through the snow. He does now thik she is ready to run her after how well she went this morning.

Fine Parchment

He worked upsides Van Diemens Land this morning, it rode like a very strong piece of work. The snow was at a good point for him too as he has had a few runs recently on very testing ground. A small break and a change of routine has done him the world of good.

Judy’s Boy

He has come on so much in the last month, both in his appearance (he has filled out) and in his work. He seems to be finding his work easier and easier each week. Charlie now plans on upping his work load in the hope of running him in about a month’s time.

  

King Arthur

Stopping with him was very frustrating as he had come on a ton from his race at Lingfield. He did look good this morning upsides Seventh Sky. We now think he takes a bit more work than we had first anticipated. Charlie has put him in Juvenile Maiden next Tuesday at Market Rasen where he has a realistic chance of running.

Lord of House

He never travelled as strongly last weekend as he did at Sandown. I maybe think he suffered from the chaos the snow caused us. I also feel in hindsight that he has not had much time in-between his runs, all of which were on testing ground. He has returned home fine and will be back to fight another day.

Maringo Bay

He missed out on some work during the snow which has affected his fitness. He does normally thrive on a bit of a break. He worked with Victor Leudorum this morning and had a good blow afterwards. Therefore Charlie may give Ffos Las a miss this weekend and look at something towards the end of next week.

Masked  Man

He has thrived on a little break during the snow. This showed in his work this morning as he went about it with huge enthusiasm. I still haven’t got the shine back into his coat that I would like to get.

Prolinx

In his usual fashion he has managed to get a bruise on the sole of his foot which I discovered on Saturday. He was put right on Sunday and was fine again by Monday morning. He has been cantering away this week but will not work until Saturday. However Charlie might give him a pop over a fence tomorrow.

Seventh Sky

The snow came at the wrong time for this horse as he was ready to run.  He did work well this morning but just had a bit of a blow afterwards. Luckily there are lots of options for him now the racing is back on. Charlie is looking to find the most suitable race for him.

Stoney Silence

He did a good strong piece of work with Feisty Lass this morning. Which looked to get Charlie excited. Gavin rode him and also praised how easily he did it. With no hiccups Charlie hopes to run him in 3 to 4 weeks time.

Van Diemens Land

 He is much happy now he is on the all-weather gallop on the ‘back of the hill’, which we will keep him on for the time being. He did a strong piece of work with Fine Parchment this morning which he looked o enjoy. He does look very well at the moment but I think we should wait for some better ground.

Victor Leudorum

The snow did not affect this chap to much; we got a good piece into him to his morning. Charlie is going to wait for better ground, whilst his jockey tries to control his playfulness!

Western King

 He does not look that great at the moment but I am hoping the better weather we will be having over the next week will bring a shine back to his coat.  Charlie has decided to back off him a small bit as the ground is soft or heavy everywhere which will not suit him, he does not want him to be over the top when the ground does come back.

Who Owns Me

He has not really been affected by the snow. The small breaks from the bang he had and the snow have done him the world of good. He did have a good blow after working this morning therefore he will need a few more bits before he is out again.

Yazdi

 We were really upping his workload before the snow, so have been set back a bit with him which is frustrating. He did a good strong bit this morning and will work again on Saturday. Charlie will school him in the morning, I am not to keen on rushing him now, because the ground wont suit him at the moment.
